The Best Places to Get Designer Brands on a College Girl Budget

October 13, 2018

This is an exciting one today! I've been told I have champagne taste on, well, a water budget. This means that I always have my eyes peeled for a great deal. There are a few places that have become my go-to's to look for good deals year round, not just on the typical sale days. A few of these places are already pretty well knows, but I thought I could at least share some of the brands/outfits I've found at them.

Nordstrom Rack

This is my first go to if I have a specific type of fashion item in mind. They have such an amazing selection of high end brands. I especially love their shoe selection. I got a pair of Steve Madden shoes for $30 when they're originally priced at $60, and right after the style got super popular. Win-win! I went after the Nordstrom Sale back in July and stocked up on Madewell t-shirts for $15 each. They're a great staple piece and perfect for layering. I got 2 white, one black and one grey. When I was just there this past weekend they had so may fall jackets out, I could've gotten a dozen! I was eyeing this Ralph Lauren jacket that is usually in the $200 range at Macy's for 50% off the original price, but it was still a little too much for my budget. Maybe on Black Friday ;)

TJ Maxx/Marshalls

These two are a lot like Nordstrom Rack, but I find it a little harder to find more well known brands. That being said I probably frequent these two the most. They always have a pretty good selection of handbags and luggage, if that's what you're in the market for. Just this spring I got a Calpac suitcase for my spring break trip for $60 with was half the original price! I also was able to score some really good deals on denim last spring before they started cycling in the summer clothes. I got my favorite pair of Lucky Brand high waisted jeans for $70 originally priced at $129 and my first pair of Paige denim jeans for $80 when they're usually, wait for it, $179. That's almost $100 off!! When I tell you guys that I could live in my Paige jeans because they're so comfortable, I'm not joking.

Plato's Closet

If you're unfamiliar with the store, Plato's closet buys and sells gently used clothes. I like it because you can go in with some of your stuff, get cash upfront for the items they take, and then you can use that to shop their great selection of popular brands for sooo much less than retail price. Over the summer I picked up a pair of $45 J. Crew shorts for $12! This is also another really good place to pick up denim and you can even find some good shoes there too. I got a pair of Nine West flats for $8, originally $70. One woman's trash is another's treasure.

Poshmark

This is the best place to go if you have a specific item in mind and you don't want to spend the time to sort through racks to find it. You can shop thousands of brand from the app, and you're even able to negotiate the price with the seller. For big ticket items, Poshmark will assess and guarantee the authenticity of the item. I know tons of people who have score LV this way. I personally have never bought anything but I do list and sell my own clothes on there so make sure you follow my closet to know when I'm putting up new items.
