Monthly Favorites: July 2018

July 28, 2018

I cannot believe that July is basically over; it feels like just yesterday was the 4th of July! Since starting my little blog journal (stay tuned for more on that) it's been so much easier to keep track of my monthly favorites so you can look forward to more monthly posts like this. I love trying out new things, from podcasts to beauty products, and I love sharing my thoughts on the with you guys, so posts like there are perfect for that! Here's to my random ramblings of things I've been doing, using, enjoying over the past month.

Fashion:

Friendship bracelets

So I'm not sure that this counts as "Fashion" but I wear them all the time so I'm throwing it in here, mainly because I wear the same thing every day as part of my camp uniform so I don't really have anything else for this category. If you read my last Coffee Date, you know the story behind these.

Yellow:

This one is really just a color but it fit best here too.  It's just so happy and summery. I've had yellow nails for the past few weeks, lots of yellow outfits and making tons of bracelets with yellow in them.

Beauty:

Serums

I have been trying to up my skincare game lately, and since I really didn't want to my derm recommended face washes, I decided to venture into the world of serums. Right now I am using this one from Urban Outfitters that is packed with vitamin C to restore and renew your skin.

Fresh Face

With my job at camp, I really don't wear much, if any make up during the summer. I love the look and feel of keeping it natural. My skin feels great, I don't have to worry about sweat or the pool ruining my makeup and it saves so much time. Most days I'll just throw on some of my favorite mascara.

Fitness:

Running

I've bee getting up at 5:30 every day to run before work. It wakes me up more than coffee does, and it doesn't hurt that it's much better for your body. Right now I'm focusing on extending my running time more than distance and pace. My goal is to build up enough endurance for a 5k, then we'll see where it goes from there.

Whitney Simmons Workouts

To go along with my running, I've been adding in strength workouts every other day. I love Whitney's workouts because she has a range of difficulty levels and provides you with modifications. She also has a bunch of workouts that are either equipment free or can be modified for things that are easier to use at home.

Dorm Room Shopping: Where to Start + What's In My Dormify Cart

July 22, 2018

At the end of August I will be moving into a dorm for the first time. It's pretty overwhelming yet exciting getting ready for move in day. For years I have been saying that I can't wait until I had my own space to decorate, so this just puts me one step closer.
I have read so many blog posts, gone through hundreds of checklists and watched dozens of videos on the "Essentials" things you need to bring with you. From talking to friends and just my everyday life as a college student, I've realized that a lot of the stuff from all of those really isn't as important as they seem. I wanted to share with you guys a list of the MOST important things I'm buying for my dorm, complied from lists, posts, videos, friends and my own experience.
At the end of the post Ill share my Dormify cart with you guys, which is basically all the extra fluff you really don't need but will totally make your room cuter and make you feel more at home. If you want 20% off your Dormify order you can click this link right here. Go ahead, I'll wait. Now that's out of the way, let's jump right in.

Dorm Room Essentials

Comforter/ Duvet- For the love of all things holy please do not buy one in white. It will get dirty so, so quickly. If you still want the look of a sleek neutral color scheme with maybe a popular color, a shade of grey is a safe bet.

Mattress Pad AND Mattress Topper- This will make your dorm bed so much comfier I promise you. My best friend even has two mattress pads and I think her dorm bed might be comfier than my bed at home

2 Sets of Sheets- Get at least 2 sets so you aren't constantly doing laundry and you can still lay in bed while you're washing the first set.

Organization- This one is a pretty umbrella term but get what fits your needs. Have a lot of shoes? Get a hanging shoe rack. Want to lots of snacks on hand? Plastic bins are perfect for that? Have so much stationary your roommate might think you're crazy? First off, you're not, second get some desk organizers. The possibilities are endless.

Closed Lid Garbage Can- You'll obviously need a garbage in your room and if your room doesn't provide one for you, you'll need to bring one. I recommend one that has a closable lid to keep any funky smells from filling up your tiny, shared space.

A Lamp- Some schools provide a desk lamp, some provide a floor lamp, all of them have horrible (or non-existent) overhead lighting. Check what your school provides and pick up which ever one won't be there on move in day.

Mirror- Floor length, wall, or cosmetic is up to you and your level of vanity (don't worry, I'm not judging) but having at least one is a must.

For the most part this is a really all you need to get through your time in the dorms. You don't want to bring too much and then not use half of it and you definitely want thinks that are more functional than decorative. If you have any more dorm room must haves, leave them in a comment below!

Great Places to Shop

Dormify-You can shop pre planned rooms in a few clicks. Decorating your dorm doesn't get much easier than that!
Target- I love Target for more décor centric things like pillows, throw blankets and wall hangings
Bed Bath and Beyond- Perfect for all the basics like bedding, organization and small appliances (hello coffee maker)
Ikea- I don't have one near me but I imagine it's very similar to Bed Bath and Beyond
Walmart- Cute for cheap décor and cheap mattress toppers/pads, especially if your school doesn't allow the foam ones like mine.

What's In My Dormify Cart

Wall Art // Dry Erase Boards // Throw Blanket // Duvet Cover // "I Believe in Naps" Pillow // Trunk // Bed Skirt // Pink Pillow

Coffee Date no. 9 | New Beginnings & Old School Nostagia

July 15, 2018

Happy July!! If you're new here, hi hello welcome. My Coffee Date posts are a basically a semi-regular life update for my readers. I also highly recommend following my Instagram (@cuteandclassyblog) and maybe even signing up for my newsletter, you know just to keep updated and such.

Work has been keeping me super busy lately, which has made it difficult for me to keep up with posts and Instagram. I'm working on a schedule that will work with everything else going on, so it might be a week or two before things get back on their regular track again. Thanks for your patience!

Last week was the 4th of July, and I got to spend the day on my friends boat, and I got to spend the next day as a lobster nursing a pretty nasty sunburn. Besides that it was a great day, relaxing and floating on the lake.

Ever since camp started I've been making tons of those woven friendship bracelets. I usually always make one for myself each summer and wear it until it falls off, but ever since I became a Pura Vida rep (use LEAHCLASEN20 for 20% off) I've had the urge to make enough to fill my entire arm and then some. I even bought one of those embroidery thread organizers so I can color coordinate all them. Someone please stop me.
I remember when I was a camper at myself, my counselors would always be making these bracelets and I thought it was so interesting. I was so excited when I finally learned how to make them myself that I begged my mom to buy me the string you use to make them. She bought me one of those value packs that had a range of colors in it and I took them with me every day to camp. I never wanted to let anyone else use my favorite colors because I didn't want to run out of them. I was always the same way with stickers too. I never wanted to use my favorite ones because I wanted to save them, for what I have no idea.

I got a new planner last week and I am way too excited to use it. This year I settled on the Happy Planner in the classic size with the vertical spread. At first I was a little skeptical of not only a weekly spread when I had gotten so used to daily ones, but also a vertical layout. I was really drawn to this planner by all the stickers that this company makes to go with it. Now yes, you can use the stickers in other planners, and I did that last year, but they are specially sized for the boxes in this planner. I also love elaborate and colorful spreads in my planner to remain motivated. Since I'm artistically challenged, the box stickers for this planner are perfect. The Happy Planner is also super customizable, with add-ons and removable pages, which I think will be perfect for combining school and blogging into the same planner finally. Once I get into the swing of using it, I'll have a full planning post up for you guys as part of my back to school posts.

Speaking of back to school, I have (finally) settled on a home for the next two year, where I'll be majoring in Chemistry on a Pre-Med track. I can't wait to show you guys my dorm room and my new routines at my new school. Next week I have an entire dorm room post going up. I hope I can share a little inspiration for any incoming freshman or even returning college gals that want a new look for their dorm this year.

Leave a comment with any school related posts you guys want to see in the upcoming months. Don't worry, I still have lots of summer content planned!

I hope you enjoyed this little life update/ramble!!

4th of July Vibes | Red, White and Blue OOTD

July 1, 2018

First things first, this isn't your typical 4th of July outfit post where everything either has an American flag, stars or stripes on it (No shade to those posts, they're all still super cute). I wanted to put together something that was still festive but not totally in your face about the holiday.

This is a pretty casual look, that can totally be worn with some cute distressed shorts or even the chino shorts in my last post, it just happened to be a little chilly the day I shot these. You could up the festive-ness of it with some cute tassel earrings like these ones, or a more patriotic shirt like this one.

Outfit Details:
Shirt // Jeans // Bag // Shoes // Sunglasses // Bracelets (Use LEAHCLASEN20 for 20% off)

I am currently writing this post while sipping on some lemon ginger tea with honey, surrounded by tissues and sounding like a frog. Who ever said kids are bad at sharing is a liar. They love to share their germs, even when you don't ask!
I swear by using a humidifier when I'm sick and I recently tried using a saline nasal rinse (it's uncomfortable buy you can actually breath after guys!!) but what are some of your best cold remedies? I'm trying to get better asap because let me tell you,  while being sick in the summer sucks, being sick while you work at on outdoor summer camp makes it so much worse.

You can catch me dragging my tea and tissues outside with me this week because there's no way I'm staying cooped up inside! I'll be spending my Independence day on my friend's boat, which is pretty much the most all-American way you can spend the 4th of July. Here's to hoping I feel better by then.
Share your plans for the 4th in the comments below!
