My Favorite Mascaras

December 13, 2017

I’m not one of those girls who needs a full face of makeup on in order to leave the house, but it is very rare to see me without mascara on. It’s honestly one of my favorite parts of doing my makeup.

Mascara can open your eyes so much, and a look never seems complete without it.
I have super short, thin sparse lashes and I definitely don't have the time or patience to put falsies on everyday nor the money for lash extension, so I spend a lot of time trying out different mascaras. To save you guys the time, I put together a round up of my favorite, tried and true mascaras.

I also threw in a few of my favorite lash primers too.

I swear by the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, as I'm sure you know if you've read any of my other beauty posts. It's really an all around great mascara. It lengthens, adds volume and holds a curl. The secret is all in the brush shape and length. One or two swipes and all your lashes are coated.

I recently tried out the Essence Beauty Lash Princess False Lash mascara and it really does do what it promises. Usually if I want that fake lash look with any other mascara, I need to layer it on (not with my MVP Too Faced BTS though) but this mascara does the job in just two coats. Added bonus: It's only $5!

The Tarte Lights, Camera Lashes mascara is another great mascara that adds tons of volume. It doesn't get clumpy or flake off either. This has a really great waterproof version that I love using for work over the summer.

The Tarte Opening Act lash primer is a new favorite of mine. It goes on white and dries clear. It's a great, lightweight way to add a little extra to a mascara that really only focuses on one thing (usually they focus on length or volume, not both). I put this on under the Too Faced or Essence mascara and my lashes go on for days. I only use one coat before it starts getting a little too clumpy for my liking.

My favorite thing to wear on days I want that "no makeup" makeup look is the Benefit They're Real Tinted Lash primer. While this is marketed as a primer (and it works great for that) I like to use it to tint my natural lashes and add just enough length and volume to define them so you know they're there but still keeping it very natural.

The Benefit They're Real and Roller Lash mascaras are my favorite to layer. I like to start with the Roller Lash to add length and curl. Then I let it get a little tacky before adding the They're Real for volume and drama. It's like Benefit made them to be the perfect pair.

I'll keep you guys updated with any changes or additions to this list. If you have any mascara recommendations, leave me a comment!
