Gigi Hadid x Maybelline: First Impressions & Review

December 16, 2017

Last week I went to Ulta for one $5 mascara. After acquiring two coupons from a very lovely woman passing by while I was walking in, I left with a good amount of the Gigi Hadid line. I think the only thing I didn’t end up coming home with is her eyeshadows and the mascara.

I’ve seen so much hype over these products, and with celebrities collabing with cosmetic companies becoming more and more popular, I wanted to see what this line was all about.

I love trying out new products and sharing them with you guys. The more information you have about a product, the better you can decide if they're worth your money. That's why I love first impressions and review posts so much!

My first thoughts on this was that for the most part it was pretty reasonably priced. I think it's a little more than Maybelline's usual prices, but it's still super affordable. I got everything in the picture above for less than $30.

Let's start with the primer

When I was in the store, there weren't any tester products of any of this line, so I really had to go off of the packaging. Her tinted primer only comes in two shades, so it's really not great for really fair or very dark skinned girls. That being said this is a primer not a foundation but in several promotional videos Gigi said she uses it in place of foundation for a lighter coverage, which was my main motivation for buying this.

When I first swatched this on the back of my hand at home I was shocked at how dark it was since it was the lightest shade. I honestly thought I was going to have to return it. Once it started blending it out, the color started to lighten up a lot and look much less visible and dark.
I've been using this for a few days now and it still doesn't match my skin as well as I wish it would. I haven't started self tanning for the winter yet, so I'm hoping once I do it will match flawlessly.

The coverage is really good for a lightweight tinted primer. It's just enough to blur imperfections but feels like you're not wearing anything on your face. It blends out well with a Beauty Blender and stays on all day. I do use the Laura Mercier translucent powder to set it for the day, and that could add a little extra staying power.

Let me start off by saying I love this product to the moon and back. It's a liquid strobe, which it basically a liquid highlighter. It opted for the color Iridescent over Gold because I am on the more fair side and it works a little better with my undertones.

You can wear this under your base for a "glow from within look" or you can layer it with a similar highlighter for a more intense look. I like to pair it with the Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Highlighter in Radiant Lights, putting it on over my primer and concealer but before my powder. Then I set my face with the Laura Mercier power and add my powder highlighter.

I really don't have any complaints about this one. It has a beautiful purple/blue iridescence to it and really goes give you a great glow.

I was super excited to try one of Gigi's lip kits. A friend of mine has this one and compared it to a Kylie Lip Kit. Now obviously this is a crème lipstick and not liquid so there are differences there, but I think she meant in terms of quality and feel. I can't vouch for this since I've never tried any of Kylie's products.

This is her West Coast Glam Lip Kit, but I honestly think red is a little more East Coast since it is so classic, but that really has nothing to do with the actual product.

On the back of the packaging it says the Gigi recommends lining your lips before and after applying the lipstick, so that's what I did. The lip liner goes on smooth and opaque. In my opinion the lipstick needs two coats to be full coverage. That being said, it stays on great. I wore this for 12 hours and only had to touch up twice. I felt like my lips were a little dry but everything dries out my lips plus the weather doesn't help at all.

This lipstick has made it into my top favorite red lipsticks for sure.

Final Thoughts:

I really like this line a lot. The nude packaging is very sleek and I love the holo signature (Cristine/ Simply Nailogical better see this).

It's affordable and they're really good about keeping the line in stock, unlike some other influencer collaborations. If you're thinking about getting anything from this line it's definitely worth the money.
