Summer Makeup Essentials

During the summer months, it's important to make sure you are using products that will stay in place through the heat, activities and probably water. You also don't want products that will clog up your pores while they're typically more enlarged than usual.
Lightweight and water resistant products are the key. SPF is a necessity and you want it to be packed into as many of your products as possible.
Today I'm sharing my summer make up (and a few skin care) essentials with you. Can you tell I like Benefit?

Base
It's important to start with a sunscreen as your base right after your normal skincare routine. You can opt for a cream or a serum but you need to make sure that is it noncomedogenic, meaning it won't clog your pores. You can use a face spray, like a rose water ( I like the one from Mario Badescu) to refresh your skin and cool you down. This can be done throughout the day.
A face primer is optional. It will help your make up stay on longer, but it might make you feel a little cakey so this step is up to your personal preference.
I like to use light weight products on my face over to summer, so I like to opt for a tinted moisturizers, BB or CC cream. These all usually have SPF in them, so it's an added bonus.

Face

I like my makeup to be bronzed and glowy over the summer. I also try to avoid using a ton of powders that sweat off easily so I usually opt for liquid or cream versions.
Cheek stains are great because they stay on forever and feel like you hardly have anything on.
Benefit has a new liquid bronzer that I am dying to try out.
Layering a cream highlighter under a powder gives you an insane glow, and the cream alone gives a nice natural look.

Eyes
When it comes to eye make up over the summer I usually just do my eyebrows and some mascara. When I want to add a little more I like to pick super summery colors, like the ones in the Too Faced Sweet Peach Pallet. (Check out my post about it here
It's super important to use an eyeshadow primer to make sure your crease color doesn't end up in your eyebrow or you liner under your eyes.
It's also a good idea for your brow product to be waterproof so your brows don't sweat off. I swear by the Gimme Brow.
Waterproof mascara is a must over the summer! It doesn't run, you don't have to worry about it if you spontaneously decide to jump in a pool and it keeps your lashes curled longer. I know water proof mascara gets a bad rep for being hard to take off but with a shower first and a little olive oil it comes right off (and the oil is great for lash growth) I love the waterproof version of Too Faced's Better Than Sex Mascara.

  1. I definitely use less and less make-up during the summer because it's so dang hot in Louisiana! Tragedy strikes when my make-up starts to melt off. Not attractive at all. I'm glad you shared a Benefit product because I love their lip stain! It's so nice to not have to worry about caking on lipstick. Having a lip color is essential to me, so I like to keep it nice and light.
