Things to do Over Winter Break

December 28, 2016

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and got everything you wanted ๐Ÿ˜‰. While some of you might only be off for a week, others might have a month off like myself and watching Netflix and scrolling through Pinterest can get boring after a while (I know I can't believe I just said that either). I wanted to do a quick post shareing some of my favorite things to do over break to help save you from your boredom

  • Go ice skating
  • Take a trip to a big city near you
  • Have a spa day ( professional or diy)
  • Redecorate a room/space in your house
  • Go skiing
  • Paint
  • Go shopping (in store or online)
  • Read your favorite blogs ( like Cute and Classy ๐Ÿ˜‰)
  • Go snow tubing
  • See a movie
  • Go to lunch or get coffee with a friend
  • Have a movie marathon
  • Catch up on your favorite vlogs (see my last post for some of my favorites)
What are your favorite winter break pastimes?

Coffee Date no. 1

December 21, 2016

I survived finals everyone! (And if you used my tips you should've too)
I figured since I was gone for about two weeks I should update you guys on what's been going on, things I've bought or been loving and everything in between. What better way to do that than have a little "coffee date" with you guys.
Disclaimer:I have seen tons of bloggers do different versions of this type of post so by no means am I trying to play it of as a 100% original idea

J. Crew Coats

Living in upstate New York, a nice, quality jacket is definitely a must and I have been eyeing these J. Crew coats since their winter catalogs first came out. I just can't justify spending that much on a jacket just yet. My style had changed a lot in the past few years and I don't want to buy clothes that I won't get years of wear out of. Once I really figure out what types of pieces I'll keep wearing year after year I'll definitely splurge.

Over-the-knee Boots

Image result for stuart weitzman over the knee boots grey

These have been everywhere lately and I love the trend! I think they look super cute with a sweater dress, tights and a cute scarf. If I knew I wouldn't freeze me booty off with bare legs in a New York winter I would totally pick up a pair. Instead I'll keep forever wishing that I lived somewhere a little warmer.

I hate to admit it but I've been to Starbucks almost every day this past week. Last week it was to fuel up for studying, this weekend it was to wake up for the drive to and from my friend's school (they had an ugly sweater party and it was super fun!) Then the past few days I've gone just to hang out and catch up with friends. There's just something about the vibes a coffee shop gives off that I love.

New York City

Unfortunately we didn't plan a trip to the city during the holidays this year but it's one of my favorite things to do. Seeing the tree and all the ice skaters is the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit. I love the energy of the city, not to mention all the great shopping. I'm really hoping I can make a trip there soon. I would've loved to go this past weekend when Danielle Carolan had her meet up but unfortunately I had to work.

Bullet Journal

If you guys don't follow me on Twitter, well you're missing out and should go follow @_cuteandclassy right now. If you do follow me however, you'd know that recently I started my own studyblr. (You can check it out here) After following more study accounts on Tumblr and Pinterest I saw so many pictures and posts about bullet journals and they seemed really cool to me. I already have two planners but I wanted to give bullet journaling a try since you can keep track of more all in one spot. So far I have done two weekly spreads and I'm really liking it. I'll keep you guys updated and do a whole post on it if you'd be interested.

I love watching my favorite vloggers everyday this time of the year. I absolutely love watching Danielle Carolan, Polina Beregova, Tori Sterling and Brooke Miccio videos and getting to watch them every day since most of them don't daily vlog is really great. They're just such awesome, inspiring girls and I want to be best friends with all of them!

Finals are Coming! - Tips for Time Management, Studying and Managing Stress.

December 4, 2016

Now that everyone is (hopefully) back into the swing of thing after returning from break, the stress of finals is starting to creep up on you. Or it has already consumed your entire being. I'm somewhere between the two.
I'd like to consider myself a pretty good student with honors classes all throughout high school and being in the honors program at my college on my resume. All of that means I've had to learn how to manage my time, stress and studying very well over the years. I wanted to share some of my tips with you guys to help you through finals too!

Time Management

  1. Use a planner// This is easily the most important thing on this list. A planner will help you keep track of all your assignments, tests and due dates. There are even planners where you can break down your day by the hour so you can plan out when you'll have time to sit down and work.
  2. Break it up// If you have a long paper or a big test break it down into smaller tasks. This will make it seem much less overwhelming and you'll feel much more productive Personally when I feel productive I'm more motivated to keep working.
  3. Take breaks//Taking breaks when is so important! It gives your brain time to relax and absorb new information. It can be as short as getting up to grab more water and a snack or as long as going out to eat. Make sure you take at least 5 minutes for every hour you're working. Even that might not be enough!
  1. Rewrite your notes//Rewriting your notes helps you subconsciously review the information as well as make them neater and easier to read. I take my notes in pencil during the class how ever they come up in the PowerPoint or when the professor is speaking and then write them in pen and with colors in a more organized manner after class or before the next class as a quick review.
  2. Make a study guide// This can be as general or specific as you want. I like to rewrite my notes (yes again) in a more general way without examples or topics I know won't be on the test and then incorporate some topics or concepts from handouts and worksheets. I find it much easier to study from a few pages than a few dozen pages of notes and worksheets. It might be a little overkill but it works!
  3. Take/ make practice tests//Some of my teachers post old exams or practice tests a week or s before out test so we can see the set up, what questions will be on it and what information will be given as reference. I find this so helpful when prepping for a test and it makes you feel so much more confident going in. If you teacher doesn't do that try typing the topic or the textbook and unit/chapters into google and see what comes up. If all else fails tryin pairing up with a friend from class and make tests for each other.

  1. Sleep!//Even though the last thing you want to do when you feel overwhelmed with work is sleep, it's probably the most important. It's important to be well rested and focused when you're taking your tests. Even if that means going to bed instead of studying those last few chapters. It's better to do really well on the sections you do know than half as well on the whole test because you're tired.
  2. Have "me time"//Take the time to paint your nails, a few extra minutes in the shower or read a chapter of a (non school related) book or magazine. As long as it's not something that will take up more time than you're spending studying. This time can act like a little treat after studying or relieve some stress before you sit down to start.
  3. Stay healthy// Drink lots of water, eat nutritious meals and make sure to exercise even if its only a light jog or a leisurely walk. Exercise helps blood flow to the brain as well as release endorphins that can improve your mood when you feel like you could snap at anything that moves. As Elle Woods once said "Endorphins makes you happy and happy people don't shoot their husbands." So hopefully exercising during finals will make you not want to shoot someone :)
What are some of your tips for surviving finals? Let me know in the comments!

40 Gifts Under $50

November 30, 2016

If you're like me you don't always like to drop a fortune on gifts for everyone on your list. I gathered up 40 gifts that are all under $50. I wanted to do 50 but the site I use to make the widget on allowed 40 :(
They're perfect for everyone on your list. I think they're perfect for friend exchanges, the ladies in your family that you always buy matching gifts for, coworkers or hostesses.

Which of these will you be gifting this year?

Gifts for College Students

November 23, 2016

I love seeing everyone's gift guides this time of year. Not only do they help me think of gifts to buy for others but it can help you come up with some unique things that you want for yourself. This is just the start of my holiday gift guides so stay tuned for more.

As a college student myself, I feel like these are all things any student would appreciate and get a lot of use out of. Every time they use it they'll think of you!
Sunglasses// Something to protect your eyes is a must when you're walking outside every day from class to class, to the library or your room. A pair of quality cute sunglasses will last far past college.

Noise Canceling Headphones//  These are super helpful if you have noisy roommates or if you just need silence to focus.

Rain Boots//Walking to class in the rain is no fun. It's even worse with wet feet. A cute pair of rain boots is the perfect solution! I get so much use out of mine.

Phone Pocket//  These are great for keeping an ID and either a card or some cash. College students always have their phones on them and it's so much easier to keep track of a phone rather than a phone and wristlet.

Coffee// College students live on coffee!!! A gift card to their favorite coffee spot is a quick easy gift that they'll love. If they have a coffee machine k-cups or coffee grounds will probably last a little longer and give more bang for your buck.

Weekend Bag// A huge part of the college experience is doing things spontaneously. Whether it be a weekend trip with your friends or spring break you're going to need a sturdy bag that you can throw your travel essentials in.

What are you asking for this Christmas?

My Favotire Fall Coffee Shop Drinks

October 16, 2016

My favorite thing to do on a chilly fall day is curling up with a good book in a comfy sweater while sipping on one of my favorite hot drinks.
While some people have mastered the art of making those drinks at home, I am not one of those people. I like to run to one of my favorite coffee shops and pick a large cup to sip on for a while.
I noticed I usually pick from a handful of drink when I go so I decided to round up a list of all my favorite fall drinks and where they're from.
“ October is here and so are my favorite @redstamp downloads
  • Salted Caramel Mocha - Starbucks
Salted caramel is one of my favorite flavors. Add in the mocha and this is easily one of my top favorites.
This is great hot or iced, so it's a perfect pick for all of you who still love your iced drinks in the colder months.
  • Caramel Latte - Panera
This is my go to drink when I want to get something before class. It's warm, sweet cozy goodness and pairs great with one of Panera's pumpkin pie bagels.
  • Dunkachino - Dunkin Donuts
I know what you're probably thinking-what on earth is a Dunkachino? Is it Dunkin's version of a cappuccino?
A Dunkachino is half coffee and half hot chocolate. Basically heaven in a cup. You're welcome.
  • Pumpkin Spice Latte - Starbucks
What would this list be without a PSL.
You can really get this anywhere but I refer the pumpkin flavor from Starbucks over Dunkin. Let me know below where your favorite PSL is from!
  • Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate - Starbucks
This is a great option for taking to Friday night football games.
Yes I graduated, yes I still go to my high school's football games.
The salted caramel real brings out all the flavors and gives the hot chocolate a little twist.
  • Carmel Apple Spice - Starbucks
This drink tastes like apple pie with vanilla ice cream. It smells almost as good as it tastes. This is a great option if you're not a fan off coffee or you just don't want caffeine. If you could put fall in a cup, it would be this drink.

What are your favorite fall drinks? Let me know in the comments, or tweet me @_cuteandclassy

What's in my Backpack 2016

September 18, 2016

Since school is now in full swing, with many students having been back for a few weeks now, I wanted to share with you guys what I keep in my backpack for college.
I use the Longchamp Le Pliage Large Tote bag as my backpack.

Water bottle
Hydration is so important. I have a 25oz water bottle and try to get through at least two while I'm on campus

Although I love my handwritten notes its more convenient to have an electronic copy. Typing them up after class also acts as extra review. Comment down below if you would like a more detailed post about how I take notes!
I also like to get some work done inbetween my classes so having my laptop with me is a must.

Headphones and Chargers
It's important to keep your phone/laptop/tablet charged especially if you're using them for your classes or in the library.

Two pencil cases
I has a smaller pencil case that I keep black pens, mechanical pencils and anything else I use in class every day that I keep on my desk. The larger pencil case has all my colored pens, highlighters and anything I don't use as often or use when I'm rewriting my notes in the library that usually just comes with me when I know I'll have time in the library.

No one wants to get sick during school and with all the people and germs you'll come in contact with this is a must have.

Hand lotion
If you're using a lot of handsanitizer it's going to dry out your hands. Add on cold weather up north and you'll be wanting a nice hand lotion while you're on campus.

No matter how much you wash your hands or use hand sanitizer it is inevitable that you're going to get sick at least once. Don't be that person who keeps sniffing during class. Bring some tissues with you!

Minimergency Kit
This saves me so much space in my bag because I can be assured that I have something for nearly every emergency while keeps big my bag light at the same time. Everything is in one tiny, convinient bag

No one wants to get stuck walking to class in the rain on a day you didn't bring a rain coat. Enough said.

Wallet and Keys
This is especially imports for anyone who commutes to school. I'd reccomend always having your student ID and some cash with you if you live on campus.

I always feel like I have something stuck in my teeth or have bad breath after eating so I like to chew a piece of gum after lunch or even after a coffee

What do you keep in your backpack/work bag?

Remember to keep it cute, and classy

How I Edit my Instagram Pictures

September 11, 2016

This post contains refferal links that Cute and Classy may receive compensation from. All opinions are my own

As a blogger, I find myself on Instagram a lot. Some days when I have extra time on my hands I can spend hours on there! I love looking at peoples' profiles that have beautiful cohesive themes. Lately I have been working on creating a theme for my feed and I think I have finally found one that I like.
I thought I'd share with you guys what apps I use and what I do when I edit my Instagram pictures.

Image result for facetune app icon
the first thing I do when take a picture is edit any slight imperfections in Facetune. These are usually anything from a bra strap I want hidden to fly away hairs and teeth whitening. This is a totally optional step and wont effect your theme at all.

Image result for vsco

Here's where the fun comes in. I open the picture in VSCO and bypass the filters and go right to the editing mode. I up the exposure +2, contrast +4, saturation +2 and highlights +4. This leaves my pictures crisp and bright.

Image result for planoly logo

You can download this app here
After I am done editing my pictures I upload them to Planoly. This app is great because it puts the picture you're about to post next to all your existing posts so you can make sure that your new picture fits well with your existing theme. This is especially helpful when you have several pictures you're going to upload and you want to see how they'll all look together to see what order to post them. You can also see your account statistics and schedule and caption your pictures from this app.

Image result for unum photo app

Unum is a very similar app to Planoly. You can see your new pictures with the rest of your feed, access your statistics, edit and schedule from the app. You can even set daily reminders to post if you don't want to schedule your posts from the app. The even better part? It's 100% free!

How do you edit your pictures?

Bare Minerals Gen Nude Liquick Lipstick - First Impression and Review

August 20, 2016

Originally posted on August 15, 2016

While I was at Macy's this weekend to get my brows done at the Brow Bar I saw the new Bare Minerals Gen Nude collection. A sales woman approached me and told me it was the "grand launch" of the line at Macy's and if you spent $50 you'd get a free gift with purchase. So naturally I had to pick up two liquid lips and a lip liner.
I picked up liquid lipsticks in Wink and Cookie and a lip liner in Borderline
First impression:
I love love love the packaging. It's so simple and chic, which I think is the look that they were going for. When you first open the liquid lipstick there's a very strong chocolate-y smell very similar to the Too Faced Chocolate line. For me the smell did not bother me but I do know that many people are sensitive to that. (The smell does not transfer when applied) There is a great varieties of colors so there's something to match everyone's skin tones and preferences.
Both liquid lipsticks went on very easily and very opaque. You don't have to work too quickly before they dry, but once they do dry they don't move. I can go the whole day without reapplying. That being said I'm usually reapply after I eat because I always feel like there's food on my lipstick after a meal. The formula is hardly drying and that is coming from someone who always has dry lips. I do find myself occasionally wanting to put some Chapstick on top but I do have very chapped lips.
I would definitely recommend the shade Cookie over Wink. It works better with my fair skin. Wink washes me out a little too much while Cookie is that "your lip color but better" shade on me. The lip liner is such a versatile color, you could wear it with almost any color.
Over all I give these products a 9.5/10
There's always room for improvement :)
